History
Dingwalls originally opened in 1973 as “Dingwalls Dancehall” and has had a range of different musical functions throughout its 50-year lifespan.
The venue has been a Jazz Bar owned by legendary DJ Gilles Peterson and Patrick Forge, before moving back to its roots of being a permanent part of the Camden gigging scene now with Vince Power. Holding host to iconic shows such as Blondie’s debut, Coldplay, Etta James, Foo Fighters, R.E.M and The Strokes, the venue also had a large part to play in Camden’s punk boom with The Clash, Sex Pistols and Ramones regularly appearing. Dingwalls became a prominent and popular London live music venue in the pub rock and Punk Rock era of the mid to late 1970s, even though the overall programming stayed eclectic.
In the 21st century artists performing at Dingwalls have included: James Bay, You Me At Six, Modestep, Noel Gallagher, The Posies, Imagine Dragons, Red Hot Chili Peppers, The White Stripes, Stereophonics, George Ezra, Ellie Goulding, The Darkness, American Blues singer Beth Hart and, in 2011, ‘Venison’ (a pseudonym of the Strokes for the purposes of a ‘secret’ comeback show).
On 15 April 2023, Kaiser Chiefs did a special benefit show at the venue in aid of Amnesty International in conjunction with Richer Unsigned, while Henry Rollins headlined the 50th anniversary of the venue.
